Just call me Anastasia

If you haven't gathered yet, I was brought up somewhat of a princess !
My mom worked (teacher) and we had a live-in maid.
Education in apartheid S.Africa was the primary goal in our lives, so we never really did chores - we just had to study.
The first time I HAD to do housework was when my mum started chemo and being newly married and living in the house I took over the housework.  But even then I got someone to come weekly at least.  When we moved to our own place we had a maid and each year the number of days increased per week, until last year when it became permanent.
So when Priscilla didn't pitch up for work this week, I kinda couldn't ignore the dirty floor anymore and cleaned it.  It took me 2 hours !!!!!!!! And that was just the kitchen floor!
And as I did it, not even being sure if I was doing it properly I cursed my dearly departed mother for not having trained me !  These are life/survival skills that any person needs. (DH is no better - a male child is a prince in our Cape Town culture !! )
So today, I promise to expose my CHILDREN to chores and teach them how to do it (after I figure it out myself that is ) - so that I can be sure they will never feel so incompetent with such a seemingly menial task!
